LOGAN SQUARE PREFAB ADDITION

Prefab Modern Addition meets Victorian

This project involves marrying a simple, modern addition to an existing 19th century Victorian in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago.

This project was our first endeavor into the world of prefabricated construction. The addition was designed utilizing steel prefab wall panels as a means to ‘tighten up’ the entire structure from air leakage to create a more comfortable interior. High efficiency mechanical systems were installed to augment the existing system and aid in reducing utility expenses while providing a higher degree of heating and cooling control through zoned areas of the home. The existing kitchen was opened up into the dining area and the newly created living space addition on the first level. The second level addition was primarily designed as a master bedroom retreat with en suite bath and expanded storage areas.

The resultant design creates a complimentary dialogue between the existing historic detailing and the modernist addition.
